This Side of the Border

Last Friday, Justin and I had some urgent business in downtown Seattle, and we decided to make an outing  of it. We got so lucky to be there in between two pretty big storms, and even though it was quite windy, the sky was of a blue color, and the sun shined rather cheerfully. Seattle is irresistible under the clear blue sky. It always is to me - I remember when we first came here, I said in amazement, "Do people really live here?"

I am rather happy with the way my new Keds (my first pair of Keds, in fact) tied two pieces from my existing wardrobe together. I have worn this tunic with white straight linen pants, with black wide linen pants, and with green genie pants, and I think this combination with cropped red skinnies is my favorite to date. The purple shoe laces were included with this pair of Keds, in addition to the red laces, - how thoughtful! - and I love how the purple of the Keds picks up on the purple of the tunic.

I thought that we would probably be taking pictures somewhere on the gorgeous Seattle waterfront, but since we had to be back at home to meet our daughter from school, we just did not have enough time to look for the right location. I am even happy that it all happened the way it happened. We were near Queen Anne - an old Seattle neighborhood, famous for its fun upbeat restaurants, and just by accident stopped right in front of a Mexican restaurant (which we recognized once we got inside... we had dinner there once a few years back). The restaurant was beautiful, brightly colored and whimsical inside and out - and somehow it all came together just perfectly. (It's the magic purple tunic! It always attracts just the right location for photographs!)

We had a nice relaxing lunch, chicken fajitas and margarita were yummy, then Justin took a few shots of my colorful (how very appropriate for Mexican culture) outfit, and what is probably one of my very best portraits ever, and were home just on time to meet Anna.
And just so you believe that we really were on this side of the border and not actually in Mexico (it's hard to believe looking at these photos, I know!), I will show you a photo of the Space Needle which was peeking at us from just around the corner.

Linen tunic - Bryn Walker. Pants - Chico's. Scarf - thrifted. Keds via Nordstrom Rack. Watch - husband's Timex.

  2. Oh I agree, I think that's one of the most beautiful of all the close-up photos Justin takes of you too. Look at your flawless skin and perfect Cupid's bow!
Red and purple are a delicious combination, and the Keds and scarf add some gorgeous print top and bottom and tie it all together beautifully. The restaurant looks fabulous, I think I would really enjoy a trip to Seattle! xxx

    1. Oh Sandra, thank you so much, you are so kind! It's cloudy with rain and even a bit of hail here now. Seattle is a very cloudy place 9 months of the year, our climate is similar to English in many ways. I would looove to meet you here! :)

    1. Thank you for your kindest words, Shawna! I haven't been to Vancouver yet, but I hear that it is amazing! And yes, our nature is of course the same. I hope we will meet in Seattle (or somewhere else) soon! I better start working on it!! :)
This color combo is new to me, I am sure it was the very first outfit where I mixed red and purple together. They are both very strong colors, and when I was younger, I was way timid to wear something like it. I experiment a lot these days!

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! It's especially nice to hear about my make-up. I remember that when I was young, I used to spend about 40 minutes daily to do my hair and make-up. These days, I spend probably no more then 5 or 10 minutes. It's nice to hear that the result is still pretty good! :) Hugs!

I love Seattle, too, it is such a fun, high energy place, and the food is amazing!
Loved this post , as always,

    1. Thank you, Elle!! Seattle is a funky city, and I adore it. I love seafood here, it's almost always my first choice if we go out to eat. Thank you for your compliments. My skin is not bad, though far from perfect - it is LIGHT what can make it look perfect, I noticed. Light is an amazing and magical thing! :)

  8. Everything in this outfit works so nice together! Purple and red is such a beautiful combination on its own. But by adding these wonderful keds and the colourful scarf you made the look stunning. I love the backgrounds on your photos too. Indeed, the purple tunic attracts amazing locations! :)

  11. I love a tunic, and I especially love a purple one on you! And even more when you pair it some very cute crops. Still more with your brilliantly coordinated patterns ... not matchy-matchy but impressively combined. Thoughtful. I like that styling approach so much. You look amazing.
You are making me so homesick. I'd give a lot to move "home" to Seattle, but it isn't going to happen. QA is old stomping grounds for me and my huz. My mother came out for an extended visit and lived in the most adorable apartment on the hill. Sigh. And the food. Is "Mama's Mexican Kitchen" down in Belltown?

    1. Oh Jan, so sorry that you think it isn't going to happen... well, maybe some day! Don't give up on your dream!

Thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful comments. I am so happy to have you here! I am not very familiar with Belltown, to tell you the truth. We don't eat out a lot in Seattle, we just happened to be in the area and happened to park right in front of that Mexican place. It was fun!

I wonder if my approach is more thoughtful or more just intuitive? I can't say that I really think about my outfits a lot. Sometimes an idea strikes me, and I just go for it. But I don't spend a lot of time in front of the mirror trying different combinations. I am pretty spontaneous. :)
