Layer It

A couple of other recent experiments I wanted to share - this time, playing with layering.

1. Summer Dress + Tee Shirt

I wanted to wear this dress again which was a great success and one of my favorite outfits in June (see it here), but the weather was cloudy with bits of rain, and I wanted to style it more casually this time, with different color accents. Since my nails were already yellow and I did not want to repaint them, I decided on yellow accents. Oops! I do not have anything yellow in my wardrobe, other than yellow nail polish!

But I do have many things in chartreuse! It really is the closest thing to yellow that I have, and I think it worked perfectly fine, maybe even more interesting (because unexpected) than pure yellow. My Converse (which were on some crazy sale for $9) completed the casual outfit. Where do you think I went dressed like this? I'll give you a hint, even two hints: it starts with an i, and it's really tasty!!

2. Jumpsuit + Duster

I have three jumpsuits in my closet. One of them became my first post in this blog (see it here). This one is by the same company, both from last Summer. I tried to wear this one with a military jacket, with a denim jacket, and with a black vest. They all work well, but I feel a bit uncomfortable in them - a bit naked, you know the feeling? As soon as I threw this long cardigan (duster) on, I felt perfectly myself - sexy and elegant as Justin put it. I like that.

Love the design of this necklace, but boy this thing is heavy!!!!!!!! I can't wear it for a long time.

These shoes are not designed for walking, but it's fun to walk a bit in the city. (I was stopped by a girl who wanted to know about them... where I got them, or I made them... nope, never made a shoe in my life, at least not yet! :)

We went to the movies that evening, to the independent theater in Tacoma, where we watched Words and Pictures - recommend if you are a fan of Juliette Binoche, Clive Owen, romantic comedies and exploring creative life!

Dress and earrings from Goodwill, the rest is remixed from my closet.

  1. It's funny, we call sweaters jumpers. I was thinking, only three? But I might be a bit excessive. I love that duster coat with the tassels ! And the aqua and chartreuse are to die for. But my favourite is the frog ring:-)

    1. Jack, I am tired and writing in a foreign language, you have to forgive me - it's a jumpsuit of course! I'll correct. :)

    2. You aren't totally off track Natasha, since jumper here in North America is actually a bit of a vague thing. It is sometimes a child's outfit similar to a romper, and it is sometimes a dress that is styled like overalls on top, and with which you would have to wear a shirt underneath. The term, and the style of dress, are not in common use at the moment. I wore many dresses that were jumpers as a child.

  5. You look so gorgeous as always and I love seeing the photos of you out in the streets. I love the jumpsuit and duster, and I think it is one of your outfits I would steal for myself-lol. Jumpsuits never fit me though so maybe I will just steal the duster. Evil friend that I am!
You are so radiant you make me smile every time I see you!

    1. Thank you, Shawna! I am so glad that I make you smile! :) :) :) The duster is still on sale on the web - you can buy it if you really like it, it's so versatile.

PS Thank you for that piece of info about jumpers/rompers... now that you mentioned, I do remember such terms from children's clothing. English can be confusing - well, any language can, in fact. :)

    1. Thank you, Beate - you are sooo kind and always warm my heart! There are really tons of sunshine and rainbows inside of me, though there is a very deep sadness there too, I guess it will take some time to work itself out of my system. Bright clothing helps! :) Love to you, sweetie!

    2. i guess the sadness is the reason why your sunny smile is so genuine! it needs deep valleys to have high mountains :-)

    3. That's a beautiful metaphor, Beate... I don't know if it works that way. I think it all sort of begins with genuineness... Much love to you, my dear!

  7. Oh yes, that jumpsuit is fabulous on you! I'm with Justin - sexy and elegant is the perfect description. And Vix's shoes are always a joy!
Love the chartreuse top under the dress, it works perfectly. Your nails are always immaculate, how do you manage that? You are the mistress of colour, of accessorising, and perfect nails, Natalia! xxxx

    1. Thank you, Curtise!! About nails: I discovered Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, they look pretty well on my nails for a few days (I don't bother to fix minor imperfections - that would drive me nuts :). Of course, if I don't scrub dishes or something like that. :))

    1. It's a funny story about those shoes - I always meant to share, but always forget. I found them in Nordstrom Rack (discounted items) and LOVED the colors and pattern. The price was dropped from &70 to $27 - that's pretty much my speed when I buy new items. When we paid for the shoes, the cute cashier register not just admitted that she was born the same day with me (only 20 years later :))), and I really don't meet many people who are born on my birthday... but also that the price for the Converse was actually $9, they just forgot to change the label !!! ;)

  9. The dress looks very much in harmony with the tee! It is amazing how some things unexpectedly work so good together. Love you jumpsuit! Can you imagine, I still don't own any jumpsuit. Have tried a couple but didn't like them. I guess I have not found "my piece" yet. Interesting necklace and my! that frog-ring is so cool!

  10. Great outfits! My favorite is the jumpsuit -- you look amazing in it. And of course, the necklace -- it's so unique! Wonderful choice on the accents! No layering for me :) It's so freaking hot and humid here in Houston :) I'm inside most of the time... In the evening, when the temperature drops, I go for a walk. Thanks God for the breeze :) Have a wonderful 4th of July.

    1. I want to see what you wear in hot and humid Houston, Oksana! I consider our summers here absolutely ideal for me - mild, sunny (rain is extremely rare in summers), gentle, gorgeous... I am in love with our summers and want them to never end. :) "Я так хочу, чтобы лето не кончалось! Чтоб оно за мною мчалось..." :)

  11. Look at how sweet you look! I love the bright bold colors in that dress and you always have such beautiful matching polish and jewelry. Although the shop stopper is the jumpsuit on you, I adore it! Summertime just calls for a sweet jumper like this.

  12. Enchanting!
That I do often too, wear color matching t-shirts under blouses and dresses. Our summer is not very sunny...
AndI choose clothing colors matching to the nail polish too (so Ioften don't use nailpolish in alldays life, thus not determined what I have to wear.. -)
The jumpsuit with this cardigan is great and I like this interesting white building rihgt in the picture - whats this?

    1. Mascha, I have to admit - I did not know what's that building, though I too noticed the architecture... so I did a little research. It's a church built in 1924 in Gothic Revival style. The whole article here, if you are interested!

    2. Thank you :-)
      Very interesting!
I have thought of a sacred building, but then it seemed to me for Christian Church unusual. Such never seen before...

  13. Fabulous layered looks! I especially like the jean jacket partnered with a bold, boho-ish print like that. It reminds me, as I'm ever so prone to forgetting, that I need to wear my own jean jacket more often during the summer months (and really, in general).

    1. So sweet of you to stop by, Jessica! I visit your blog, but I don't think I ever commented. :)

You know, I feel I in general need to wear my clothes more often. :))) So I understand what you say here.

  14. From one layering queen to another, WOW!! I love these looks. The prints, colors, and proportions are fabulous. The photography is wonderful, too. Love the stripe of yellow and blue in the shot with the denim jacket, and the cityscape one is really nice as well. I love your "city" shoes and all your accessories as always.

In a comment you mention a deep sadness, and although I don't know the specifics, I can relate. Among other things, my father is dying and I'm losing my mother to dementia. I think for many of us, the creativity of personal style can be a daily expression of joy and connection, a way of nurturing ourselves and sharing it with others.

Thank you for sharing your creativity and beauty!! On a funnier note, your jumpsuit reminded me of a disastrous experience I had when I was in my 20's, the very last time I wore a jumpsuit. Imagine a small 4-seat plane, no bathroom, and a denim jumpsuit. Not a pretty picture, that's all I'll say. :-) You look gorgeous in yours, and I love the duster over it. I'm a huge fan of long pieces like that. XXOO

    1. Sadness is a part of our wide range of emotions. And women are definitely queens of emotions. I would never want to pretend that I don't feel what I feel. But I don't want to be stuck in my sadness either, so I find different ways to work through it. Colorful clothing helps me, blogging helps me tremendously! Such wonderful comments make my day!

I am so sorry to hear about your parents, Jean. The one consolation is always Love which they give to you and you give to them. That's where all the sunshine comes from, isn't it? And you are a very, very loving person!

And very, very Gorgeous! To hear "wow" from you... wow! That gives me goosebumps, in a good way. :)

Much love to you and only happy adventures in jumpsuits! :)
