These days, we often forget to bring our camera when we go out, or if we manage to bring the camera, then we forget the memory card, so there are no fresh outfit pictures. But there are the photos from late July which I haven't shared yet. It was a warm day with a cooler evening, as usually happens here in the Pacific Northwest, and Justin took me by surprise when he offered to spend it on Bainbridge Island which we both love.
Funny that I was thinking about going to BI (1.5 hours from our home) because I really love the pizza in this little restaurant in Lynwood Center called Threehouse Cafe, but I felt silly to drive all the way there just for pizza.
"For pizza and romance," corrected me Justin,
and if you still don't know this man, then let me tell you - he is the one who really knows how to put things into perspective. For pizza AND romance! It does make so much more sense and sounds just lovely!
Some of you might be familiar with this colorful funky sundress that I bought at Goodwill last year (post A Little Love from July 2015). It is one of those items that when you see it you really hope that it fits! It is beautifully made from a great quality soft cotton, not to mention the lovely feminine design and gorgeous pattern and choice of colors. There are no labels on it whatsoever, so I have no clue as to where and when it was made. If only I knew, I'd buy more dresses from this maker.
The fabric is thin and the dress takes very little space in terms of packing, which makes it another great option for a Summer vacation wardrobe. It's really a pleasure to wear on a hot day - so light and breathable, it also makes a statement on its own. But I love more complicated looks, so I accessorized it to create another charming old-fashioned summer outfit. I'm all about old time charm this Summer. I think I found my most favorite fashion decade - the 1930s. If you have any recommendations on books or web-sites about this decade in fashion, I will appreciate your advice very much.
And as the evening cooled down, I was happy to wear my favorite-of-the moment cardigan over the sundress. I think this cardigan is a real beauty with the thoughtful design of bell sleeves, shawl collar and handkerchief hem and all the details. It combines well with everything, from jeans and shorts to dresses, and lifts up all the Summer looks. I just can't have enough of it.
And finally, I am happy to announce that Midlife Fun will continue this month! We will open the link up on August 28, and the theme is "Rock That Vintage!" You are welcome to participate with your own vintage clothing, shoes or accessories, including "new vintage" (items from 1990s, or some even consider early 2000s vintage too, especially designer pieces). Or just come as you are! It will be great fun!

Beautiful dress and cardigan! I found one like it in a shop recently but it was $300 so that was out. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour husband is such a prize. Pizza and romance sounds perfect to me! xoxo
Yes, $300 is a very steep price for me too. This one was ... maybe about $80? Definitely not much more than that. Check out Torrid web site, I think they still have them on sale. You can also make one - you know how to crochet if I remember right. I am sure you can find a pattern, especially in vintage magazines. That would be a fun thing to crochet. :)
DeleteWell I just checked the web - nope, it's gone. It was there just a couple of days ago. On to crocheting I guess. :))
DeleteLovely dress, Natalia. I wish I could access vintage clothing. The quality and style are much better that the clothes we purchase now.
ReplyDeleteJasmine x
I also wish there is more vintage clothing ... available in my size. :) But there is some, and I gradually build my vintage wardrobe. :)
DeleteBeautiful outfit! And a beautiful location.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tiina :)
Deletejustin knows it! :-)

DeleteThis dress fits you sooo well ♥️ You look amazing. Oh.yes romance :) I'm looking forward to Rock that vintage ;)
ReplyDeleteHughs and kisses, Tina
Thank you, Tina! Let's rock it!
DeleteThat dress is lovely, I adore the bold print. I'm delighted that you played it up - rather than dressing it down - with that fab hat and crochet cardi.
ReplyDeleteThere was an incredibly beautiful and gripping TV show, the first series was set in 1932, called Indian Summers - sadly they only made two series but I'd thoroughly recommend it for both the costumes and the plot. xxx
And I am delighted that you are delighted! :)
DeleteThank you for the recommendation, I will definitely look into it!
Justin is precious! Pizza and romance...what more could a woman ask for? Besides, we only live once. Pavarotti said that one of the best things about life is that a few times a day we must leave everything we're doing and devote our attention to our mean...and I totally agree with him. Food can be such a pleasure and when it is shared with those we love it becomes a blessing. Food prepared and eaten with love is nurturing not just in the physical but also in an emotional and spiritual sense.
ReplyDeleteThis dress is absolutely stunning and you wear it so well. I love how you styled it with that cardigan. Very feminine and chic Summer outfit. You look very ladylike and beautiful!
sorry typo- it should be to our meal, not our mean.
DeletePavarotti came to my mind because today I was listening to his performaces...He really had an angelic voice that man!
Me and Pavarotti! We love food! And food loves us! It really sticks to us and wouldn't want to leave! :)
DeleteSeriously, I love your comment and I absolutely agree with you. Anything done with love feeds our soul, and food is no exception.
What a beautiful dress and I love the vintage vibe of your cardigan!

The dress is perfect for a hot day - and it was such a hot day!
DeleteJustin is such a romantic soul. I love you in that dress, the style , colour and print are just perfect. The knit cardigan and your striped hat and bag the perfect touches.
ReplyDeleteI will look forward to the vintage themes for Midlife Fun.
I hope you will join the Midlife Fun, Jill - and thank you for your kind comment!
DeleteThis dress is amazing as is your crochet cardigan! And that sounds like the perfect pizza and romance outing! Some of my fave writers from the 1930's are Katherine Anne Porter, Virginia Woolf, Dylan Thomas, Pearl Buck, John Steinbeck, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. And of course there are the big shots DH Lawrence, William Faulkner, TS Eliot, George Orwell, and Ernest Hemingway.
ReplyDeleteDo stop by and join my On the Edge of the Week Link Up! It goes live every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. EST! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you, Shelbee! Many of these names are familiar to me - I studied literature for 6 years at university (I'm a Language and Literature Major). But some were new. Always fun to explore. :)
DeleteThanks for your recent comment on our video!
ReplyDeleteI love how a hat can elevate a simple outfit. This one is a beauty.
