Modish Matrons #26: Blue & Green

Hello dear friends and welcome to Modish Matrons!
In August, we follow Beate's steps into the beautiful sisterhood of two summery colors - BLUE & GREEN! We wear them together, just as we see them together in nature, and especially in abundance during Summer peak.

Feel free to click on the collage to enlarge it! And do visit my gorgeous style and nature loving friends BEATE und TINA and see their inspiring outfits in detail - always thoughtful, feminine and whimsical!

Justin and I had this photo shoot on a hot and humid late July afternoon. Yes, even here in the mild Pacific Northwest, together with the rest of the world, we've been experiencing a heat wave for the past couple of weeks with temperatures between 80 and 90 F (27 to 32 C and higher in the valley). But we are lucky to live by the huge "pool", and our mornings and evenings are usually still lovely.

I picked the location spontaneously (it was on the way to our destination, and I knew it was pretty and provided good background as well as good light), but I totally forgot that the beautiful grounds around Knutzen Family Theater in Federal Way (http://www.centerstagetheatre.com) have this lovely blue hydrangea (which we'd already seen blooming in early July). It felt so special - as if Mother Nature was preparing for Modish Matrons too!

I also love this evergreen shrub with variegated, "painted" leaves, and the lush flower baskets which we used for my outfit photos a few times (some of them I posted before, like this one in JULY 2015, and others I haven't yet, but when I do I'll link HERE).

My blue & green 100% cotton outfit was perfect for a hot and humid day. I've shown you all these pieces before: the skirt in AUGUST 2017 (with another blue blouse, by the way, only it was navy blue that time), and the embroidered top in MAY 2018. I love this updated take on a peasant shirt, with slits on both sleeves for better ventilation. My accessories are old and well-loved, and you've seen them as well, but they all came out to play in a new combination!
EASY TIP:
In Summer, I keep a few hats in my car,
so I can match any outfit and protect myself from the sun as I go out.

All pieces are remixed from my closet:
Skirt - Eloquii (2017)
Top - Lane Bryant (2017)
Sandals - Dansko (2017)
Hat - Old Navy (2016)
Earrings, purse, African basket - few years old

  2. Hello dearest Natalia - your look seems to be inspired by the Hydrangea-Flowers with the blue blossoms - great! Here it's very hot, too, that's the reason why my comment is sooo short... SORRY! I need to go into cool water!
But my hugs are warm ;-)

  3. Look at you: a gorgeous flower among the Hydrangeas and hanging baskets! Your skirt is in my favourite shade of green, and then that fabulous blouse, the colour of which almost match the Hydrangeas. There's nothing like 100% cotton for a hot summer's day, and you do look very cool indeed. I love both of your straw bags, especially the first one. And would you believe I am also keeping a choice of hats in the car! Lots of love xxx

    1. Yes, I believe, Ann! :) It's a cool trick - which I discovered by a coincidence, hats just started accumulating in the back of the car because I kept forgetting them there in the evening when sun went down. :)
      Love!

    1. Your red hat is gorgeous, and I do believe it goes with pretty much everything!
I think I created this outfit in your honor, my dearest! It is not only your color combination, but also your silhouette. It reminds me of you! I wasn't really thinking about it, but as soon as I put it together, it said "Beate" - and I didn't mind at all! :)
Lots of love and thank you for MM!

  8. I loved this combo on Beate and I love it on you, too! Not only do we have twin hats but that's my basket, too!
Although I don't have a car - I always keep a sunhat along with wellies and a fake fur coat in the van - three less things to thing about packing when we're working away. xxx

    1. Oh yes, keep a few things handy in a car/van - and you'll be prepared for almost anything! Vehicles are like another little home in that sense. :)
And I love your African basket - it probably unconsciously influenced me, so I had to buy it when I saw it in a store 2-3 years ago! :)

  9. I smiled as I read your summer tip because I do the same thing. I keep at least a hat or two in the car at all times, and I often bring more than one with me. With years I found that hats really help me feel better in summer. I love the sun as much as other summer lovers do, but direct exposure to sun often makes me feel tired and dizzy. It is amazing what a difference wearing a hat can make. Sure, I still sweat a lot- the temperatures in Mostar reach over 40 degrees at times, the whole city is circled my mountains so in the summer the heat can't escape and it's really really hot....and hats do help. I love the hat you're wearing btw...it is so pretty and matches the outfit perfectly!!!!

---and what to say of the outfit. It's so beautiful and feminine. I love the combo of these two colours, green and blue, and I think I said it before but this combo always makes me think of mermaids. I always drew mermaids using predominately these two colours...and sometimes adding some other as well.

That blouse matches the skirt wonderfully...such a lady like summer styling. I also love what Beate and Tina are wearing. You 3 always come up with fabulous outfits, I like them all.

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I love mermaids association!

40 C is unbearable... it is extremely rare when temps go as high as that here (the only time in my almost 12 years here, I remember in 2008 or 2009), but the last couple of days it was in mid 90s F (35 C), and it was exhausting! Hats do help, and they also are pretty and make a statement. I would love to expand my hat collection in the future.

Lots of love and stay cool, my dear!
