I came across these pair of shoes last Spring at Nordstrom Rack. They are by Jeffrey Campbell, quite an edgy Californian brand of shoes, and they are nothing like I've had before - or even like I've seen before. Quite cosmic. Quite edgy. Quite quirky. I had no idea how I would wear them, but I felt instantly in love, almost like with an art object. I love everything about them! There is not one single detail I don't enjoy. They are partly vintage, partly hippy, and partly Japan to me.

So I am now a happy owner. A bit frustrated, but happy. I will be honest with you - I am yet to find the perfect outfit for them. So far, I tried to wear them with a few things out of my existing wardrobe, but I can safely say that I have nothing, NOT A THING which would be of an equal vibe with these shoes. They bring out a quirky, fun and unpredictable side of me. When I wear them, I feel a bit... how should I put it... masquerade-ish, perhaps? Ultimately, the outfit which will match them should be equally quirky. Or, at least, that's what I sense. And what do you sense from them? How would you wear them? Would you wear them at all? :)
I've decided to share just a couple of, otherwise pretty sensible, outfits featuring my crazy green shoes. So here it goes.
Outfit #1: Green Dress
I am playing on the color here. (The sensible version of the same outfit here.)
Shoes definitely make a huge difference, don't they?
Outfit #2: Sweater Coat and Oversized Necklace
Here I am playing on the scale - with the "knitting" of the upper part of the shoes as well as the wooden platform being over-sized, I thought I'd pick accessories with a similar feature. So I paired these funky shoes with my old time favorite, 100% wool sweater coat with big round buttons, and added this necklace to the ensemble. I could pick a green purse to match the shoes (as a green color lover, I have at least three green purses, oddly enough they weren't shown in this blog yet), but I chose to go for a contrasting red.
And again, here is the "sensible" version of the same outfit... it's all right, but a bit... how should I put it... boring, no?
Please don't get me wrong - I actually enjoy wearing these shoes and will continue pairing them with the stuff from my closet. They are surprisingly comfortable to walk, and I even managed doing errands in them today. ("Some crazy Russian woman wearing some crazy green shoes was spotted today in the city of Federal Way, Washington State". Didn't you read it in newspapers?) But I am so eager to find clothes which will actually be equally crazy for my shoes - crazy in a good way! :)
I am linking up with Shoe Shine at Bella's again!

What a pleasure to meet a "crazy Russian lady"!! The shoes are extraordinary and I can see why you fell in love with them. I think they'll be wonderful for Spring/Summer too with tans/whites/khaki colors.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so happy to meet you, Jean! Thank you for your kind comments!! I looked at your blog - it is wonderful! You are beautiful, and your style is very unique - so free and creative, colorful and whimsical, feminine and elegant all at the same time. You are very talented!
DeleteAnd yes, thank you for the tips how to wear these shoes - I will definitely try them with all these colors you've mentioned.
I would definitely wear those wonderful shoes! They work well with both outfits, but I especially like them with the green shirt dress. Funky shoes really add something extra to an outfit - do wear them often, they're great! xxx

DeleteI think you've done a good job with styling them, Natalia! But I can see them paired with a vintage thrifted 1960s/1970s caftan or maxi dress and be perfect!
ReplyDeleteThose are brilliant ideas, Bella! I love caftans - though I've never owned one yet. On to explore!! :)
