Attitude

After seeing Samantha's post at her blog Fake Fabulous today, I wanted to wear my overalls. I said it many times in my blog, and I will say it again. Aging not only did not limit my choices, on the contrary, I became much more adventurous in style, and it does not come from a desire to epatage, nope - it comes from feeling freer inside. I also learn tons from you, my lovely friends-in-style, you must know that. You give me a reason to not get into an old set of rules and become a boring middle aged person who has nothing better to do than critique bold choices of those who feel happy and playful, no matter what age or shape they are. I'll be open with you. As a young person, "good taste" seemed so important to me. Now? Good attitude. Happiness. True joy. Being alive and celebrating it. Those things. The difference is easy to identify. "Good taste" is always in the eyes of others, so called "authorities". Good attitude comes from within. It is impossible to give it an outside measurement. It is purely authentic. It is genuine.

I loved Samantha's outfit and her attitude, and I even copied for myself her tips on how to style overalls in case my imagination needs a place to start. I bought these overalls back in 2014, at the age of 41 - they are my very first overalls. You can see how I styled them with a leopard print jacket and orange accessories in 2015 here, or with a dark floral silk blouse in 2014 here.

It seems, I prefer wearing them with a high heel, but it does not mean I won't try them on with flats some day. Today's outfit came together spontaneously, I just grabbed the pieces which I love and wear a lot - my thrifted Lands End' button down shirt and a peacoat with pleated back which I bought 2 or 3 years ago - you've seen all of those pieces before.

What new thing you tried as you turned 40 (or perhaps 50 or 60)?
If you haven't tried anything new in a while, what stops you?
Do it now. Begin with where you are.

  2. I see them cropping up. Jean overalls had a comeback 20 years ago. Maybe it starts again.

  3. Excellent point! I do have noticed that I've only grown more daring in my choices as I've aged - and find that I feel freer and happier alike as a person in the process.

Your overalls are marvelous, as is the warm, earthy colour palette at work here.

    Many hugs,
    ♥ Jessica

  4. I couldn't have put it better myself, being older means freedom, freedom from the need to impress others, attract a mate or win over new friends. Accepting who we are and embracing it gives us the confidence to dress how we like and that confidence makes us shine.
A fab outfit especially that gorgeous paisley shirt. xxx

  6. I can't say that I became more brave in my fashion choices with years...I always liked experimenting with clothes. I guess I feel that my style is something that I'm still developing. There was a period in my life when I avoided jeans and was more attracted to vintage style (skirt, dresses etc). However, my husband loves when I wear jeans and casual style so lately my style has shifted a bit towards denim, sporty clothing items and so on. I think is is very positive when we feel desire to wear and try something new. Feeling free in our fashion choices and realizing that nobody gets to make rules for us is great!
