Pixie

And some more pattern playing.
This outfit was actually from the same day as the one from my previous post, so it might seem a bit repetitive because of the blazer.

But what actually gave me a spark that morning (right when I was getting ready for Erica's appointment)  - was these shoes! I bought them about a year and a half ago, I think. They are made by the Swiss based company Rieker and are very comfortable for walking. Last Winter, I used to wear them with jeans a lot. This year, I don't wear jeans as I am craving for skirts and dresses. And I sort of forgot about these shoes with their vintage-inspired flair.

When I spotted them in my closet, I wanted to create a vintage-inspired outfit, something feminine and playful, almost as if I would be going to an old-fashioned dance (it was fun to see Ann's post soon after that, as her photo shoot reminded me of a dance hall with the wooden floor and chairs, sitting there like they were expecting guests, and of course her dress and shoes... I can almost hear a gramophone playing a romantic 40s tune - it's Henry Miller, do you hear it?) So, that was my inspiration. I honestly can't say whether I succeeded or not-so-much.  I don't consider myself as tuned to fashion or talented in this field as so many of you, beautiful stylish women, but hey, I am learning! A year ago, I'd just put a pair of dark blue jeans on and called it quits (well, not before I'd also cover my upper part of course). Now I actually play with my clothes - I get creative.

So that's how I showed up at Erica's that sunny morning. I love this girl - she seems to really get me, and besides her gift for hair styling and a wonderful, relaxing head massage she gives you every time she washes your hair, she also makes me laugh. "You sexy beast," said Erica as she was putting the finishing touches on my cut. I couldn't help but giggle all day long remembering this.

Unfortunately, I forgot to bring a camera with me, and Justin had to take these pictures with his phone - not so bad for BlackBerry I think.

I found photographs from my very first visit to Erica in April 2008. Justin and I were taking pictures of pretty much everything in those days. I am glad that we did - lots of fun memories!

And the photos of the process of course... Here she is, lovely Erica, looking like a movie star as always!

I changed many hair styles and colors over the years - this one was my favorite when I was 25-26, I then came back to it in my early 30s... I thought about what I would pick for myself if I could pick any hair at all? I really like long curly hair - but I know that it is hard to deal with, and I am not up to any fussiness. Pixie cut works for me on so many levels - and for the ease of taking care too. I first tried pixie when I was 20 (I actually colored my hair copper-red back then) - and I loved it! I knew that some day I'd do it again. I think I cut my hair short when I was 36 or something like that, and I have felt quite content with this cut ever since. We'll see how it goes. (Judi Dench manages flaunting pixie for years - and it just never gets old on her, does it?)

Blazer and sweater - Lane Bryant. Skirt - Christopher and Banks. Shoes - Rieker. Purse - B Makowsky

  1. That's a fabulous outfit, Natalia. The ruffled skirt and shoe boots are very reminiscent of the 1930s and the pattern mixing rocks! I'd kill for a spotty blazer like yours!
How wonderful to have the photos from your first visit to Erica. Its been years since I had foils. I remember that you have to love your colourist when you have those as it takes so long and you need an entertaining chat! xxx

    1. Thank you, dear Vix! I am really glad that I succeeded in finding a vintage vibe - you and Curtise my best judges! :)
I haven't done foils in a while too. Good hairdresser is a fantastic thing, especially if you have trust and just enjoy a company of each other like we do. It makes it all worth every penny, and more!

  2. The outfit does have an old-time feel about it, a blend of soft/floaty with fit, you look wonderful. I think you could wear any hair style actually, you looked lovely with longer hair but your pixie cut is amazing on you. How funny that you have photos of Erica and your hair colour in process! She's beautiful, isn't she? I really enjoy talking to my hairdresser too, we have known each other for years now and have a good laugh together.
As always, the photos Justin takes of you are filled with love. xxx

  6. You were beautiful then and beautiful now! Isn't it funny how we can recreate ourselves?

I think I've seen some Rieker shoes here that were really unique. Maybe next time I feel like splurging I'll buy some.

  10. All my life I have had long hair. Until last year, when it suddenly started to annoy me and I cut it off. Not in a radical way, still have it shoulder length, but so many people commented that "it is so unusual to see you with short hair". So far I don't have any desire to grow my hair long again. I remember your photo with long hair, I liked it. But I like how you look now too, with short hair style. The outfit is gorgeous, such lovely combination of prints.

    1. Here is to changes, Olga! Дзыньк! :)
I love your beautiful red wavy hair! It must be pretty hot too to have very long hair in a warm and humid climate. I know that since I cut my hair really short, I feel chilly at times! :)

  11. What fun to see you with different hair. You look great with both styles. I love the colour combination of your outfit and the way you combined the different patterns. Gorgeous! I change my hair a lot, though growing it out is such a pain. I don't change the colour much, though in the past I've played with it a bit. I am always cutting my hair short then growing it out and then cutting it again.

    1. Thank goodness we can play with our hair in so many different ways! I'd love to see all the different hairstyles on you, including different colors. Red seems like the most me, and I've done it a lot in previous years. Mom said I was born with red hair, then I turned blond, and then sort of light brownish. So I am going back to my roots I guess! :))
