A couple of other recent experiments I wanted to share - this time, playing with layering.

Kaftan & Ombré
I have some free time on my hands, four outfits I wish to share and two days to go before my traditional monthly recap and moving onto new things in July. So I've decided to combine these four June photo sessions into two posts - here is post #1. I love looking at these photos taken a week ago because of the sunshine they bring in my gray rainy and very Seattle-ish kind of day! Oddly enough, I like them now for the very reason I didn't like them last week - they seemed too sunny, too contrasty. I almost rejected them as not good enough to post. But then again, as Justin wisely keeps reminding me, imperfect experiences make blogging more real, and I so agree with that. Why do we have this tendency to want to look/seem perfect? That is a question I think worth exploring, but for now I just want to talk about what I like and what I don't about these outfits (not photos).

Friendship Story
I don't know about you, but I sometimes put pieces together just for fun - I hang them on a tapestry rod in the living room, so I can glance at my "work in progress" from time to time as I read or write. This work sinks in to me, new ideas come, new details are added, something gets removed... all while hanging there on the tapestry rod. Then I transfer the work in progress from the rod on to my body. It's still in progress at this point, because as all of you know, things rarely look the same on the body as they do on hangers. Sometimes, it's so completely wrong (and I loved what I saw on the tapestry rod) that I don't even bother to photograph my ideas. Other times, I proceed to photograph, and then it can be either - "yep, it works" or "nope, it doesn't."
I am not super analytical. I can't always figure out in advance what will work for me and what won't. When it comes to the creative process, I follow my heart. And when I started my style journey about a year ago, I bought pieces which I though would work, or I wanted them to work. And some of them became favorites, and I wore them a lot, while others mostly spent time in my closet. It's not that I don't like them - most of the time, I think I just haven't found good companions for them. Good friends. We all need good friends. Those who see us for who we are and love us for who we are. Not less, not more. I'm sure you know what I mean. Clothes are really not so different. Each piece can be brilliant if it has a good friend - the one which helps it shine.

She's Cool
Indeed she is! They all are. And her... and her... and YOU! :)
Dear friends, I'm taking a slower pace blogging as I am getting very busy with another project, and with school being out starting tomorrow, I also will spend more time with my little one. I'll still post and comment, but just not as often as I used to.

Share-in-Style: Fruit with Mis Papelicos!
Ta-daa! And the secret reveals!
Why did I have a reason to go to Goodwill? Because gorgeous, ever inspiring and so lovable Sacramento of Mis Papelicos kindly asked me if I would like to partner with her Share-in-Style: Fruit this time. Would I? Would I?! But of course! I am happy and honored to do it!

Thrifted Treasure
You got it right - this dress was one of my latest finds in Goodwill (where I had to go for that secret reason I am not talking about just yet!). The bright purple (mulberry and lavender, would you agree?) color palette with a splash of orange (which never fails to make me happy) is what attracted me to this dress in the first place. I haven't had a style like this before, though it is very reminiscent of what my Mom used to wear in the early 80s, and it also has a mid-century feel to it, all at the same time. I am not a big expert on fashion history, and I would be very interested in learning what YOU think of this dress. Is it a classic, old-fashioned, retro, ageless or aging dress to you? What does it remind you of?
