Floral Finds

For someone who has been craving floral patterns for this Spring, I'd say I definitely hit a jackpot when I found a few gorgeous floral pieces in two wonderful consignment shops in one completely charming old town this weekend. (I will write a post about it soon.)

Of course, going thrift shopping, one never can be sure what one will find there. What if the shop is full of stripes and plaid instead? Or spiders and thorns for that matter? But somehow it always works. I don't claim to understand how, I just know that it works. I really wanted to buy a pretty floral dress or a gorgeous skirt. And I did. I bought four skirts (all floral), this gorgeous cardigan (floral) and a striking silk top (of course, also floral).

I am a rookie when it comes to thrift shopping, but this particular skirt cost me only $3, and the cardigan was $10. The most expensive thing was a 100% silk top in an amazingly beautiful pattern and very striking colors - $20. Plus the lady who sold it was the most kind when she said that I was beautiful, and Justin was handsome. I mean, who is going to beat that and how it is even possible?

I thought I'd wait till super busy Justin has a little spare time for a photo shoot, and our shy Northwest sun shows up for a day, but then decided not to. Why to wait? My little one got a bit sick and spent two days at home with me, and today she felt better, so we went food shopping together, and I dressed up and asked her to be my photographer. I think she did good! She definitely has an eye for composition, and she is learning about such tricky things as light and various camera settings (she even picked it as her subject for the upcoming science fair at school, with Justin's help of course). I know there will be more ways to style these two pieces, but that was it today, and I was quite happy with it!

Floral cardi and skirt - thrifted. Camisole - Lane Bryant. Flats - Sofft. Purse - B Makowsky. Earrings - Chico's.

I'm going to add a new label for secondhand finds from now on!

  1. Anna has a great eye mind you, you're a fabulous subject! How fortuitous to come away from the thrift shops with what you wished for as well as a lovely compliment. The cardi is gorgeous with the skirt and you look wonderful in them. xxx

    1. Thank you, lovely Vix! :) I feel that the way I combined these pieces together is a bit old-fashioned, not in a retro style sense, but just outdated, to be perfectly honest. I am going to come up with more updated versions and will be sure to share them on my blog. :) I blame all my love of thrift shopping on you, Vix, as well as Curtise, Bella and Sacramento! :))) You are an endless source of inspiration, such a wild creative force!

  2. Thrift shops have a habit of offering up what you are looking for, if you persevere! You found some beautiful florals there, and mixing the prints of the skirt and cardigan looks gorgeous, I like the contrasting light/dark backgrounds. I bet you and Justin are lovely customers, and chatted away happily in the consignment store. Of course the lady thought you were beautiful - you are!
Anna did a great job with the photos, I hope she feels better now. xxxx

    1. Thank you for your kind words and wishes, Curtise! Anna is back to school now, it was just a little bug. I also loved the dark and light background mix! But I feel that something is missing here... a belt? a necklace/scarf? different shoes perhaps? So many ways to experiment!

  5. Oh beautiful beautiful gorgeousness! and the sweater and skirt are nice too. :D Red and purple is one of my very favourite colour combinations and I was hoping to find it the last time I went thrift shopping but I did not. I'd swear that I had something quite like your skirt in my mind's eye. I love the cardigan! Over-sized, abstract flowers are my favourite! The prices sound excellent too. Anya took great photos! I just want to be a copy-cat and say everything Curtise did. That always happens, damn her! ;-)

    1. You are kind and funny! :) These sort of skirts were popular at some point, I remember. 90s perhaps? I am not sure. I am a pencil skirt kind of girl and have never had many other skirts (especially maxi). I am just now willing to learn about ways to wear them. :)
