Silk Story

I really like the way this outfit came together. Effortlessly - that's the word. I will admit that it is my favorite of all possible ways.

You probably won't believe it, or maybe you will, but it all started with a little silk scarf I found at an antique mall. The colors and floral pattern (I am mad about florals these days) captured my imagination. I thought that I did not have anything of that color in my wardrobe. But I loved it. This little pure silk joy cost me a whole four bucks.

Then I thought that I had just the right nail polish for this scarf, which I purchased a couple of weeks ago - Jazzy Jade by Sally Hansen. It was on sale at a pharmacy for a buck and a half I believe.

Stripy jackets are something I have been paying attention to for a while now. I tried some on in a thrift shop and looked at retail places, but did not like either hue or fit... This one was found while Spring clothes shopping for my daughter. I didn't plan on buying anything for myself that day, but you know how it happens, right? As we were passing a Lane Bryant store, I though what the heck, and decided to check their sale rack. Lucky me - they had just discounted this beauty, and there was only one in my size. At first, I thought that I'd pass. But on the way back I decided to try it again. Just one more time. And I won't hide it from you just because it is sort of pointless after you've seen all these pictures... yes, I bought it!

I knew that it would be a perfect pair with the Old Navy pencil skirt (I wore it here as well, check it out). The idea of combining this pair with my old green top (also Lane Bryant, last Spring) came from watching what other bloggers do with their moto jackets. I just loved the idea of layering such a short jacket with something long and flowy (have you seen it on Carelia?). I learn so much from you, ladies! I thought that soft green would compliment navy blue, and look great with the magenta loafers as well. When it became more blustery later today, I dropped by a mall and bought navy tights to keep myself warm - it worked very well too. But what really tied it all together was... this very scarf from an antique mall.

Moto jacket and green top - Lane Bryant. Skirt - Old Navy. Silk scarf - thrifted. Purse - B Makowsky. Loafers - Me Too. Jewelry - various places, gifts, finds etc. Watch from Justin.

  2. Lovely, every detail. The scarf is gorgeous and I love the idea that it inspired the whole outfit. I am a scarf addict myself. I bought two at the Annecy brocante market yesterday - and I think they too will be the pieces I start with when I put an outfit together with them. Xo

    1. I am amazed too how one little detail can inspire a greater work. I think it works like this quite often in arts too. :) Sometimes, I just start writing a phrase - and that is how the whole story is born. "Когда б вы вы знали, из какого сора..." :)

  7. I often build an outfit from a small detail too. The colours in the scarf are so gorgeous, and you worked a brilliant look around it. I am glad you went back for that jacket, you look so good in it! I have a feeling it will be a great layer for many, many outfits, although it does look especially good with the green top. As always, you look absolutely beautiful, Natalia! xxx

    1. Thank you so much, my dear! You are truly artistic in your approach! I feel like I am getting into more artistic side of dressing up and I really love it. To get into it though, you really need to accumulate a few pieces to work with, and that is what I've been doing for the past few months.

  8. This is a great outfit and you always look so polished! I have a little floral silk scarf I found at the thrift shop too. I just love yours! Your pink shoes are so wonderful! I am still looking for a red or purple pair that work for me but haven't found them yet. I am also admiring your bare legs. You have very nice legs, by the way. I am bare legged at home today, in my skirt, but if I went out I would put tights on. It still seems so cold and I look so pale. Anyhow, you look gorgeous as you always do!

    1. Awww Shawna, you just know how to make me happy. :) Thank you so much for your kind compliments. I wore tights later that day. Sun was there for a while, and I felt like bare legs for this outfit. But it works with navy tights as well. I wish just perfect red or purple (or better both) shoes your way soon! :) Can't wait to see your floral scarf. They are precious!

    1. Sandra, you make me so happy every time you say it! :) So thank you for it! Stripes are so much fun, and they really combine with other patterns much easier than I would think. I am learning from bloggers and blogging so much. I would never come up with this outfit just a few months ago. And yet, here I am, creating as I learn. Blogging is pure joy!
