Extraordinary

I believe it's our very first April photo session, even though I've posted a few times this month already, but those were all March outfits. It's a subtle difference, but it's there. There is a little more sun, even on rainy days. The temperature is a little warmer, even if evenings are still cool. And days are a little longer, so we can enjoy walks later in the day.

The dress is from the Prabal Gurung Spring collection for Lane Bryant (HERE or in select stores), the designer who dressed First Ladies, royalty and Hollywood stars and who declares that "The woman who's unafraid of how she feels about herself has always been my inspiration."  What makes this somewhat classic semi-wrap dress extraordinary? The extraordinary cut and attention to detail! The puffy sleeves, the fabric mix, the adorable buttons, the cut that doesn't exactly repeat your body shape, but follows its lines, flowing freely and sensuously.

I must say that this piece came to me in just the right time! Just when I sorted out what hasn't been sorted out before and what I feel was holding me back. Just when, with the first rays of the Spring sun, something huge, cold and prickly has finally melted inside of my soul. Just when I started feeling free and fearless again, which I haven't felt for years. For this woman, it is a pure JOY to wear this dress - modest and yet surprisingly sensual at the same time.

The faux leather moto jacket was last Spring Lane Bryant collection, and I bought it during Summer clearance, so this was actually its first outing. I think it's a perfect companion for my new dress, providing not only a color contrast, but also a texture and structure contrast for the lightweight and flowy fabric of the dress. The transparent inserts on the shoulders remind me of the transparency of air, water, clouds, and snow on the tops of the tall mountains.

Justin and I took a walk by the marina, he took pictures of me, mountains and the sailboat, courageously rushing into the deep waters, and I took pictures of everything else, as the world started feeling extraordinary once again, as if I woke up after a long, long hibernation.

  1. That dress is a far superior take on the cold shoulder thing that's been huge here - I much prefer the subtle semi sheer panels to those ungainly cut outs the Brits favour!
A wonderful Spring outfit, the jacket is a fabulous punch of colour and the setting is splendid! x
