Fine-Tuning

Stripes can be surprisingly flattering, and this jumpsuit is made masterfully in this sense. A couple of things to tell you about this outfit. First, as much as I love finding new things, I also love combining the things I already own in a new way, and that's exactly what's happening here. And second, as much as I love natural fabrics, there is a certain temperature range (around 60 F, or 15 C) when I absolutely love wearing po-ly-es-ter. I know, it sounds strange and some of you are wincing now! But to me, a girl who more than anything else is for acceptance and inclusion, there is something attractive and comforting even in polyester.

You might remember this jumpsuit from my last year's post Equal in All Directions. The long cardigan was worn many times and shown in this, this, this and this posts. Long cardigans and summer coats are some of my most favorite garments, you can see more of them under the label 'long cardigan'. This beautiful necklace was a star of my recent post Korean Influences.

The only new item here that I haven't shown you before is the sunglasses. I noticed a few pairs of inexpensive sunglasses at one of my frequent shops/sites, and decided to get a few different ones to fine-tune my understanding of what shapes go with what kinds of outfits. I realized that I mostly wear one or two pairs of glasses, and they don't always fit the outfit I'm creating - you know what I mean, don't you? It's when you look at the outfit as a whole and just feel that something's wrong, and often it's one small detail, it can be anything really, from shoes to earrings to... yes, sunglasses. So I bought a few pairs (each cost me $11) to experiment. This is one of my most favorite so far.

I started getting a kick from fine-tuning lately. It was something I did not used to like. I told you, patience is not my strong suit. But I am paying more attention to fine details lately, both in my style and my writing. I'll be really interested to hear your thoughts on the subject of fine-tuning. Do share!

With the exception of the sunglasses, all things are at least a year old or more.

    1. I think details matter because they can make things more alive - stronger, tenderer, etc. Thank you, Tina!

  2. you know - i´m a perfectionist!!
fine tuning is my strongest suit :-) but because i´m very good in it the goal changed over the years: i do like to not look to perfect at first sight..... strange eh. and i have always a couple of different sunglasses per season - always cheap ones. the expensive do not last long @moi.....
over to you! still love that suit on you and nobody wears a long light cardi/coat better than you! it´s almost your signature style! and your new sunnies are perfect with the clutch and shoes and all the accessories are trés chic with suit and coat!!!!!! and - not to "matchy-matchy" - a big + in my book :-)
i understand the preference for poly around 15°C - especially in a humid climate. cotton or linen feels much colder then the air in this conditions. i use to wear light wool or silk for that reason - and a thin poly camie (leibchen) and short poly leggings under the skirts.....
much love an big hugs!!!! xxxxxxx

    1. I think I understand why you don't like matchy-matchy and "too perfect", Beate. Nature is not about perfection. It is about organic, gradual growth and subtle details. Just like true art. And you are a true artist.
      Much love!

  3. I don't do details well but am trying. I have prescription sun hlasses so can't change them out but I think yours are fun.

  4. I have yet to master fine-tuning, but when I feel able do it, I like to pay attention to details. It always feel good to know we're done our best...and an outfit that has been fine-tuned always feels extra special.

You look stunning in that striped jumpsuit. The white long cardigan is a wonderful match to it. I love summer coats and long cardigans too ( sometimes I'm not sure how to classify them- some clothing items just seem to be hard to define and often I'm not sure is something a short summer coat or a long blazer).

I think that artificial materials have their benefits too...it all depends on the climate conditions. Cotton is perfect for hot Summer days, but in Spring we shouldn't run away from other options....what matters is that you feel comfortable.

I really like your new sunnies! I usually buy my sunnies in DM (it's a German store) because they are affordable...and I know that with my niece and nephew no pair of sunglasses will last forever. I bought them both pairs of their own, but I seems only mine have a special attraction for me....or at least my niece. My nephew is old enough not to steal my sunglasses anymore:).

Perfect accessories...that necklace is such a statement piece...Your bag is very cute!!!!! All in all, such a lovely and feminine outfit!

  5. For a really long time, most of my life actually (save for pockets of time during my teen years), I steered quite clear of most striped garments, but you know, all of a sudden, about a year ago, I started to fall seriously in love with them. In fact, my most recent vintage dress purchase is a striped 50s number that I bought not only because of its beautiful lines (literally! :D), but because the moment I saw it, an idea for a fall outfit look sprang to mind and I knew the pairing of those two things meant it had to be mine. :)

This is such a fun, chic ensemble! You're making me want a jumpsuit something fierce (I don't own, and have never had, one of my own - well, not at least since early childhood). Perhaps one will come my way this summer.

Big hugs & joyful weekend wishes, dear Natalia!

    1. It's a good line... about beautiful lines. :) I love stripes, but you made me think... when this love started? I couldn't say, really. It might be a recent development, but I remember knitting a sweater with half stripes when I was 14 - my first sweater, in fact.

I hope you'll find just the right jumpsuit, Jessica! :)

  7. I agree in fine tuning, there is so much beauty in the details. Love this outfit, the stripes are wonderful, but the jewellery is what has my hear aflutter! Congratulation, you and Glenda tied in my writing contest! The details, they matter!!

  9. I love this jumpsuit. You look like you could do somersaults and cartwheels and still look chic enough to attend the ballet. Heck, you could probably dance a nice pas de deux in it. So lovely and flattering and chic. Perfection.
