Five Outfits

This past October was record high on rain here - 12 inches vs. average 2 inches of rain. November is leaning the same direction so far. To take a break from the gray and wet weather and shake things up a bit, I thought I'd look at photos from 2016 which haven't been published yet. Even though these outfits are less elaborate compared to some, they were still fun to wear - "stylish, but not too stylish", as they say in my favorite British sitcom As Time Goes By. But my outfits don't exit just by themselves. If I wore an outfit, it means I went places and did stuff. So let's see what I've been up to in these few months.

These photos are from March. I remember the day vividly. We drove our daughter to the acting class that she was taking and took a stroll in a park. No worries, I wasn't strolling in these crazy shoes! I usually keep a pair or two of comfy shoes in the car that I can change into in case I'm going on a wild adventure. Crocs, rain boots or athlete shoes would be typical for such an occasion. (It's no secret that many Americans practically live in their cars, it's our mini-apartment where we store things.)

The next bunch of pictures is from late April when everything was blooming madly - two weeks earlier than usual this year. Our garden was planted 40 some years ago and looks more like a mature park at this point, with evergreen trees, shrubs and flowers - if there are no flowers, then there are brightly colored berries all around. This small and unassuming house is like a secret jewel box.

Late July at one of our favorite places around - Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. I'm camouflaging with the green forest and overgrown ponds that all sorts of animals and birds make their home. The long wooden boardwalk goes deep into the protected Nisqually River estuary.

End of August and two variations of the same outfit. That day, we were just out and about, having lunch and talking a walk at the newly developed Point Ruston in Tacoma, with the gorgeous views of Puget Sound and Mt Rainier on a clear day. This outfit reminds me of charming casual outfits our grandmothers wore in the 1940s. Strictly speaking, my grandmas lived in the countryside and wore a little different outfits, more practical and less fancy. But their sisters in cities could probably relate to this style.

The last outfit in this post is from mid-September, which in my book is already early Fall. But it was still very nice and warm outside. I can't remember where I wore this one. I think to the movies. We watched quite a few movies on a big screen this Autumn, both new and old ones. I think I wore it to see The King and I (1956) with charismatic Yul Brynner. To tell the truth, if I did not know he was Russian, I'd never guess from this role. I really enjoyed the sense of freedom in him as an actor. Not to mention how cute he is.

Note my new vintage set - clip-on earrings and necklace, made with real glass. I suspect, from the 1950s. I found it at the South Tacoma Antique Mall for only $6! It was also a premiere of my new cell phone case that Justin found for me - I really enjoy it, not only does it have a fun pattern, but also different textures, it's a joy to pickup my phone ever since I got this case.

I won't list all the details of my 5 outfits, but feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Photos by Justin, except those from the movies of course.

Hope you enjoyed this unusual recap. :)

  5. I really enjoyed seeing all these different outfits, I like you in all of them and find it impossible to name a favourite. I am rather fond of the black and white spot dress and it does remind me of dresses from another era.As a gardener I enjoyed a peak at your beautiful Spring garden. The shot of the cats with your view and garden is wonderful. Take care, hope your weather clears soon. We are having a wet Spring here too.
