Count Holmes and Sherlock Dracula

I would like to thank our local theater community for preparing for Justin's birthday so well this year! We barely made it to the last performance of a humorous, dynamic, fast-paced Hound of Baskervilles at Lakewood Playhouse, as Tacoma Little Theatre offered the dramatic Dracula. I love theater and will watch just about anything. But Justin is a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, and Dracula is up his alley as well, so bingo! That made my birthday present shopping really easy! Both were amazing performances, by the way, and if you're in town, I highly recommend - you'll have an unforgettable evening while supporting local arts. On to my outfit now.

As much as I love bright colors, a black and white color scheme (or rather black and cream this time) is another true love of mine. I especially enjoy mixing big bold patterns. I really like how this outfit came together. I planned another cape, but this one got chosen in the end, and I think it was more harmonious with the whole look. I promised you earlier to show off the wonderful details of the blouse (which you could see recently HERE). Isn't it great?

The skirt is made of beautiful textured fabric, has a good stretch, and the zipper that runs from the waist to the very bottom is fully functional - you can open it to make an improvised slit or even wear it backwards (zipper part upfront), many variations are possible.

The cape is new to me, but I bought it secondhand when one of my favorite plus size bloggers, Grown and Curvy Woman, was cleaning her closet. I'm glad Georgette decided to separate with this piece 'cause I am loving it! It is of very good quality, and I will enjoy wearing it for years to come.

I included the close-ups of my jewelry, also new to me, but both pieces have been around for decades! Genuine vintage pieces via The Citizen Rosebud. Thank you, Bella!

I am very pleased with the slightly Victorian vibe of my outfit (appropriate for the play we were watching that afternoon), while at the same time I think it's perfectly stylish for a contemporary fashionista as well. Suitable for work, play, or sipping coffee with someone you love on a sunny Autumn afternoon. A Bloody Mary would do nicely as well!

  6. As ever, dearest, you have wicked brilliant fashion sense, and lucky Justin! So jealous. A Bloody Mary would create the perfect splash of color with the black and white. Provided you didn't inadvertently wear it!

    1. Thank you, dear Elsbeth! It means so much to me. I feel I did well with this one. The cape was actually Justin's pick - I showed him two options, and he chose this one. I'm glad I decided to go with it - it really works! I'm constantly learning.

A Bloody Mary (they called A Bloody Mina) at TLT was really good! And I managed not to splash it on myself! :) They always offer two kinds of cocktails which you can order in the 15 min intermission, and they name those drinks after some characters or themes of the particular show. I ordered a couple of times. It adds to the whole experience. :)

  7. Outfit perfection, my dear. Whenever you wear something that shows your figure a bit more, I think, "Wow, what a figure!" Love the brooch, obviously.

I looked at Grown and Curvy Woman's stuff when she was selling it but, alas alack, it was all too big for me. I love her sense of style. She always looks great, as do you.

    1. Oh Charlotte, you are so kind! I gained more weight recently, mostly in my tummy, not so happy about it - but hey, it won't stop me from wearing what I like!

The brooch is so awesome! Bella has a great eye.

Georgette was a great discovery for me a few years ago, when I was just starting my blog. I adore her style, and she seems to be such a sweet, kind, genuine person. I think we are similarly built (though she might be taller, not sure), and probably wear the same sizes too. That yellow flower skirt that you own too - I bought it from her as well. I also purchased two coats not from her, but seeing them on her. I think she has an amazing sense of style.

    2. She really does have great style. She was an influence on my starting my blog too. And, yes, in my interactions with her, she's been very kind.

I've gained weight in my tummy too. I'm pretty sure it's a peri-menopause thing. The shape of the human body keeps changing over our entire lives. I feel like I'm in a second puberty -- while my two step-sons are in their first! It's amazing we get along as well as we do.

    3. It really is amazing that you all get along well, as it is quite challenging! Wise parents and wise kids!

  9. That cape looks wonderful on you, what a great score. I love that frill on the back of your blouse, lost on a long-haired woman and utterly perfect for you. x

  10. Dear lady, you look gorgeous, and I love particularly that victorian vibe that you've created, a modern classic with a twist!. Such a fabulous cape, and magnificent blouse, it's lovely how its striped sleeves poke out!
As a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes (in most of his embodiments), I would love to enjoy that play (both of them, really!)
